Japan Foundation : Grant Programs for Fiscal Year 2027

The Embassy of Japan in Eritrea is pleased to announce that the Japan Foundation (JF) is now accepting applications for its grant programs for fiscal year 2027. The Japan Foundation is a Japanese government-affiliated organization dedicated to promoting international cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the rest of the world. Eligible individuals and organizations in Eritrea are invited to apply for the following programs.

Programs

1. Arts and Cultural Exchange
  • Exhibitions Abroad Support Program
  • Support Program for Translation and Publication
  • Ishibashi Foundation / The Japan Foundation Fellowship for Research on Japanese Art
2. Japanese-Language Education
  • Support Program for Organizations in Japanese-Language Education (Grants)
  • Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese Language
  • Program for Specialists in Cultural and Academic Fields
3. Japanese Studies and International Dialogue
  • Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Fellowship Program
  • Grant Program for Japanese Studies Projects
  • Grant Program for Strengthening Research Networks to Co-create a Future with the Next Generation
Please note that eligibility varies by program. Some programs are open to applicants worldwide, while others are restricted to specific countries or regions. Please check the eligibility requirements for each program carefully before applying.

How to Apply

All applications must be submitted online through the Japan Foundation's online application portal by the deadline. For full details of each program, including eligibility requirements, application procedures, and application forms, please visit the Japan Foundation's official website:

Application Deadline
1 December 2026 at 13:00 (Japan Standard Time)
*Please note that late applications will not be accepted. As the deadline is set in Japan Standard Time (JST), applicants in Eritrea should note that JST is 6 hours ahead of Eritrea Standard Time (EST). The deadline in local time is therefore 1 December 2026 at 07:00 (EST).

Notes

  1. Applications must be submitted through the Japan Foundation's online application portal. Paper applications sent by post or email will not be accepted.
  2. Applicants are strongly encouraged to begin the application process well in advance of the deadline, as uploading documents may take time.
  3. Eritrea is listed as an eligible country for JF programs. However, eligibility varies by program. Please check each program's guidelines carefully.
  4. The Japan Foundation will notify applicants of the results of the selection process by April 2027.
  5. For programs under the "Japanese Studies and International Dialogue" category, please note that applicants affiliated with institutions in Southeast Asia should apply for specific programs designated for that region. Eritrean applicants should apply for the general overseas programs.
